SOME communities are addressing the needs of Australia's ageing population with the establishment of more retirement homes.

Green Leaf by the Lake retirement village is being built at Wyee Point. Residences in this development will have two or three bedrooms and a double garage.

The village is also being promoted as a place with security in a relaxed and peaceful environment near the lake.

In the Wyee area there is the Bethshan Retirement Village and Nursing Home.

In recent years, students from Wyee Public School have been in regular contact with the residents of Bethshan.

"The visits are important to our residents because they bring great joy and this is evident by the smiles of our residents and their eagerness to talk with children during visits," said Cherylanne Auston, who organises the school's visits to the Bethshan aged care facility.
